LINCOLN, Neb. — The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) released the following statement ahead of today’s Business and Labor Committee hearing on a bill to establish a workers’ compensation drug formulary (LB 487):
“Injured workers in Nebraska, and across the country, deserve high-quality medical care that gets them back on their feet as quickly as possible,” said Steve Schneider, APCIA vice president for state affairs. “Nebraskan workers were injured at a significantly higher rate than workers in other states in 2017. A formulary would help ensure that these workers receive the most appropriate medications for their injuries, in addition to reducing prescriptions of opioids and other dangerous drugs, and we encourage committee members to vote yes on the bill this afternoon.”
LB 487 would require Nebraska’s Workers’ Compensation Court to establish an evidence-based drug formulary, a list of the best medications for treating injured workers. Thirteen other states have established a drug formulary and brought efficiency and efficacy to injured workers’ recovery process.
