- Now is the Time for Hail Lawsuit Abuse Reform
AUSTIN, Texas - Joe Woods, vice president, state government relations for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) today commends the House Insurance Committee for the passage of House Bill 1774 to protect Texas homeowners.
“Today’s vote is another step in the right direction to stop hail litigation abuse. HB 1774 protects storm victims from bad actors trying to take advantage of them after a disaster.
“With such high risk for property damage from severe weather and natural disasters, Texans need peace of mind that their insurance claims will be settled quickly and efficiently. House Bill 1774 will help make that happen by protecting homeowners from storm-chasing third-parties, while ensuring that policyholders still have all their legal rights if they feel their insurer acted in bad faith.”
Woods is available for media interviews.
- PCI promotes and protects the viability of a competitive private insurance market for the benefit of consumers and insurers. PCI is composed of nearly 1,000 member companies, representing the broadest cross section of insurers of any national trade association. PCI members write $202 billion in annual premium, 35 percent of the nation's property casualty insurance. Member companies write 42 percent of the U.S. automobile insurance market, 27 percent of the homeowners market, 33 percent of the commercial property and liability market and 34 percent of the private workers compensation market.
