  • WASHINGTON — The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) today announced that Kate Carey will be joining the organization as vice president, federal government relations.

"Kate is an industry thought leader with a distinguished track record of advocacy success," said Nat Wienecke, PCI’s senior vice president of federal government relations. "She joins a lineup of some of the industry's best and brightest in PCI's federal office."

Carey has worked in the insurance industry for more than 25 years as a strategic government relations and public policy attorney. Most recently, she served as vice president and head of federal government relations for MetLife. In this role, she protected the insurance marketplace and its consumers in numerous legislative and regulatory efforts, including the Dodd Frank Act and the Terrorism Reinsurance Act, and its reauthorizations. She also brings extensive grassroots and political engagement experience.

PCI has worked to enhance its role as a leading voice for the insurance industry at the federal level. Carey's vast industry experience will boost PCI's expertise on top industry issues, including: international and federal regulatory reform; federal tax reform; rising insurance cost drivers; flood insurance reform and reauthorization; and natural catastrophe preparedness and response.

"PCI is a recognized industry thought leader-- devoting substantial time and resources to solving the challenges facing our industry," said David Sampson, PCI’s president and CEO. "Kate's announcement further demonstrates our commitment to recruiting the most talented and experienced team in the industry. PCI’s advocacy voice and policy expertise are unparalleled.”

Carey holds a B.A. degree from the University of Santa Clara. She completed her J.D. from Catholic University and an L.L.M. from Georgetown. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. Carey resides in Chevy Chase, Maryland and is an aspiring equestrian.
