Every part of America is at risk when it comes to natural catastrophes. From hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, to wildfires, earthquakes and mudslides in the west, tornadoes in the heartland, and the potential for floods across the country, homeowners and families look to America's insurance companies to protect them against these risks.

In an effort to better prepare consumers for the next natural disaster, PCI is helping policyholders better understand their insurance policies and take steps to be financially as well as physically prepared for natural disasters. PCI recently became a NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador and will be working with NOAA and other Ambassadors to promote consumer education, readiness and overall resilience against extreme weather.

One key to financial preparedness is understanding your insurance policy and ensuring you have the coverage in place that will protect you and your property.

Social Media
Social media is changing the way Americans prepare for and respond to natural disasters and on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 as part of Chicago Social Media Week, PCI led a session focusing on the important role social media plays saving lives, reducing damage and aiding emergency responders when disasters occur.

Representatives from the National Weather Service in Chicago, FEMA, State Auto Insurance Company, and PCI highlighted recent severe weather events and how they are using social media to connect with individuals and provide valuable real-time information to save lives and enhance disaster response efforts.
